HIPs get a HIP, but not quite a HIP Hooray

The results of an Ipsos MORI poll, commissioned by the Association of Home Pack Providers (AHIPP) have been released this week.

There are no startling data revealing high satisfaction with the whole Home Information Pack (HIP) process.

Instead, the focus seems to centre on the fact that 85% of consumers polled insisted that the need to obtain a HIP did not influence their decision whether or not to put their home on the market for sale. Praise indeed!

What this does imply, however, is that perhaps homeowners no longer see the HIP as such a big deal, and are quite happy just to get on with.

It is unsurprising to see this acceptance of HIPs as the start rather than the end of reform in the housing market in England and Wales.

57% would like to see more upfront information such as a Home Condition report, included in the HIP pack.

Where there has been favour with improvements to the HIP regulations, is in the introduction from 6th April this year of the Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ). 60% said that the information was useful. 75% said the PIQ was easy to complete.

Again, it is not a shock that in a Conveyancing market where there has been a mortgage famine for the best part of 2 years that consumers, a hefty 82% still think the home buying and selling process takes too long.

It may be fair to deduce that the hatred in some quarters of the Home Information Pack, when it was first introduced in August 2007, has been replaced by a willingness, however weak, that the HIP may have benefits, but that those benefits can still be vastly improved.
